Winterize your car now...doing that includes some basic safety tips; create a survival kit! 106 St Tire & Wheel located on Northern Blvd, Merrick Blvd, Queens Blvd and 108 St, wants customers to be prepared not sorry-tips on what to have in your car!

The Lesson of Hurricane Irene: prepare an emergency kit! Get one of those large plastic containers with a lid and place the items below that must remain dry inside and then place the container in your trunk. Have you seen those news clips where people are rescued from their cars soaking wet and cold? It could happen to any one of us.

1) a warm blanket or two
2) extra boots and waterproof gloves
3) an extra set or two of warm clothes for members of your family
4) extra water, non perishable food, hard candies like peppermints
5) hooded sweatshirts
6) an ice scraper
7) a small shovel
8) a flashlight and an extra set of batteries
9) windshield washer fluid
10) windshield wipers
11) flares & a cigarette lighter (not the one in your car but rather the type purchased by smokers)
12) jumper cables
13) a tool kit
14) tire chains
15) a tire gauge
16) a spare tire with air in it
17) tire jack
18) a first-aid kit
19) paper towels
20) a bag of abrasive material such as rock salt, sand or non-clumping kitty litter-
all are excellent ways to increase traction if a tire gets stuck in snow.
21) keep your gas tank as full as you can to prevent the gas lines from freezing
22) a phone charger for your cell phone (plugs into cigarette lighter)

If you get stuck in ice and snow, call someone immediately and tell them where you are. Do not get out of your car unless you know where you are and help is close by.

Tie something colorful to your side view mirrors.
