do men pay less for tires than women?

Apparently, women paying more for haircuts, dry cleaning, cars and auto related repairs is not news.

In 1996, New York City Department of Consumer Affairs surveyed the charge women incur for haircuts and found out that 2 out of 3 women pay upwards of 25 percent more than men for a basic shampoo, cut, and blow dry. This averages $20 versus $16 for men.

It's thought that men pay less for cars simply because they feel freer to challenge the sticker prices.

At 106 St Tire & Wheel, everyone, no matter the gender, gets our best price and service everyday, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our service is the best in NYC and we have gone the extra mile to make the ladies more comfortable in our beautiful,
comfortable waiting rooms including up-to-date magazines, plants, new furniture with a dash of feng shui.

106 St cares about all its customers and because we do, we offer free information about such imperative subjects like nitrogen fill. We offer free tire pressure checks at all 4 stores because we know most tire related accidents happen because
of under-inflated tires.

We offer NYS Inspections now, oil changes, air conditioning repairs, shocks, struts, brakes, nitrogen fill, TPMS, used tires, rims, rim repair, wheels, TIG state of the art welding, Vossen, D2Forged Wheels, ConceptOne, Savani, Konig, Falken, Hankook, Bridgestone tires and others, tire repair 24 hours a day at 106-01 Northern Blvd, Corona,

HAPPY HOLIDAYS...please be safe:

Please make sure your tires are properly inflated. We will check them for free because most tire failures & related accidents are caused by under-inflated tires.

Winter is upon us and the weather will be changing. Can you afford to trust the health, wellness & safety to improperly inflated tires?

If you are the type of person who tends to overlook this huge safety issue, 106 ST Tire & Wheel is one of, if not the ONLY, tire dealer in Queens offering 21 century tech with nitrogen fill. Nitrogen fill is affordable...it costs $32 for all 4 tires and nitrogen maintains correct tire pressure far longer than ordinary compressed air
and has no corrosive properties.

Please watch the video with Jay Leno (he's a car buff as you may or may not know) and he's the spokesperson for Nitrogen fill because its been shown to save tons of pollutants, time, money so much so that its been in use for over 10 years at NASCAR, NASA and Air Force One. Please watch this: www.getnitrogen.org

Lets get smart about our neighborhoods, the city, the country and the planet.

SAVE TIME
SAVE ENERGY
SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
SAVE MONEY
SAVE LIVES

Top Speed says this may be a Cadillac concept car!

Now that the buzz of SEMA 2010 is quietly dying down, the auto world will now set its attention to the forthcoming LA Auto Show on November 19th.

One brand that’s scheduled to be in attendance is Cadillac and it’s just come to our attention that the automaker will be bringing an all-new concept car to the City of Angels.

Not surprisingly, the company has kept mum on what kind of car this is going to be so all your guesses are going to be as good as ours. Short of saying, we don’t know what it’s going to be. It could be anything really – maybe it’s even the Aera Concept (pictured above) that they’ve entered at the auto show’s Design Challenge – but for now, all we’ve got are tons of speculation.

In some ways, it’s a good thing not knowing what to expect because it keeps that element of surprise at a high-level. Who knows, these guys might be bringing a car that’s going to revolutionize the world. Highly unlikely, we know, but that’s the beauty of being in the dark when it comes to concept vehicles.

RUBBER PRICES GOING UP

Rubber Prices Headed Nowhere But Up
November 03, 2010

Following many financial reports from tire companies suggesting that sales are up but profits have not necessarily followed suit, it seems that the high price of rubber – cited as a major profit-eating factor – is set to continue its upward momentum in the near future. The Financial Times says heavy rains in southeast Asian rubber growing regions are responsible, having disrupted tapping in the region, thus limiting supply. According to the report, this situation is unlikely to be alleviated until 2012.

Tyrepress.com has reported rising tire prices frequently over the past year, as manufacturers react to the combination of rebounding demand for tires and limited and expensive supplies of raw materials. The Financial Times quotes a senior economist at the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries, Jom Jacob, who suggests that the “concerns over natural rubber supply are likely to persist until the end of 2011.” (Tyres & Accessories)

Putting customers first for decades, 106 St Tire & Wheel, with 4 locations serving Queens and open 24/7 inc. holidays, uses Facebook to keep customer’s informed

no need to search the web for automotive news...come join 106 on Facebook

we have been posting interesting news sporatically but have made a decision to keep our customers informed about our mutual passion: CARS and everything about them.

In these times, however, it's important to increase our awareness about the environment and the impact our passion has on it. Cars and automotive aspects in our society have impact on our world and our childrens' future.

We are asking everyone to keep their cars in driviable condition for SAFETY PURPOSED AND AS THE NUMBER ONE POLLUTER of our air quality.

We can do so much to reverse that:
1) keep your tire pressure at the manufacturer's specification
2) dispose of old tires, batteries, etc in an environemntally sound way
3) make sure you keep tires, front-end, suspension, etc in good condition for they
all affect your gasoline mileage. When we burn more gas, we pollute the air at
a faster rate. Please see this link and listen to Jay Leno www.getnitrogen.org
4) consider nitrogen fill

The rates of respiratory illnesses in kids are exploding. This summer in NYC we
experienced some very hot weather with poor air quality. This affects how we all breathe ans especially the elderly and children.

Let's think green and help support cleaner air.

Thanks

Go Green to Save Green

this is a great article about saving the earth and saving money. We want to stress the importance of saving gas, wear on your tires, the environment and, ultimately, the future of the planet.

Out of balance tires burn more gas as does under-inflated tires. 106 Tire & Wheel has invested in the environment and this neighborhood by introducing the latest technology to save money, gas and our air quality.

Come on in for our introductory prices on the Road Force Balancer by Hunter and don't forget about nitrogen fill http://getnitrogen.org/n2study/video/leno.html.
Take a moment & watch Jay Leno...our future is dependent upon it. THANKS

Go Green to Save Green
By Sarah Mahoney

For Amie Cross, 28, saving money while saving the planet isn’t just a good idea: It’s a passion. “I’m a stay-at-home mom, and that means part of my job description is saving money whenever I can. To me, it goes hand in hand with being good to the environment,” she says.

To save gas and wear-and-tear on the family car, she shops once a month for dry goods, always buying in bulk. The rest of the time, Cross bikes to the store while hauling her two toddler daughters in a trailer behind her.

“Once, I got a really good price on organic milk, so I bought six gallons,” Cross says. How does she keep so much milk from going bad? “We freeze it and also make homemade yogurt. It’s easy, healthier and costs me about 55 cents for 32 ounces -- including the electricity -- versus $2.24 at the store.”

Some experts feared the recession would weaken people’s commitment to the environment. Instead, many are simply supercharging their dedication with a jolt of frugality. “About 74 percent of people say they are actively seeking green products within their budget,” says Mindy Gomes Casseres, a director in the corporate responsibility group of marketing research company Cone Inc.

Beyond just buying green, consumers are trying to live green too. Here are seven ways to befriend the earth while boosting your bottom line:

Get down and dirty When the White House is bragging about organic veggies, you know a trend has gone mainstream. The National Gardening Association is predicting a 19 percent increase in the number of Americans who will plant a green garden this year. A typical garden -- about 600 square feet -- produces 300 pounds of produce, worth $600. Factor out the $70 most people spend on their garden, and you can still net $530 in food savings.

“I spend less than $2 on a packet of cucumber seeds, and during the peak of the season, I get two or three cucumbers a day,” says Becky Zemansky, a kindergarten teacher in Woodstock, Ga., who uses them to flavor drinking water. Additionally, she cans much of her produce, using the family’s apples, pears and plums to make homemade fruit rollups.

Rediscover your clothesline Whether they run on just gas, or gas and electricity, clothes dryers are usually the second most expensive appliance to run, costing about $85 a year, according to the California Energy Commission. (Refrigerators use the most energy.) Even air-drying a few loads a week can help.

Unplug, unplug, unplug Gadgets like Kill A Watt ($25) and Watts Up ($96) measure precisely how much juice your electronics use. You may be able to borrow the devices from, believe it or not, your public library or utility company. Or you could just take experts’ word for it and unplug such small appliances as toasters, coffee pots, TVs and computers. If you use a power strip, you only need to hit one switch to shut off all your printers, monitors and such.

Check your tires Keeping tires properly inflated helps maximize fuel economy, according to The Environmental Protection Agency. In fact, to reduce greenhouse gasses, California has made tire checks mandatory. Longer tire life means fewer junk tires in landfills and more green for you. Check your manual or car door for safe levels.

Kick less to the curb While Zemansky has been recycling for years, “we’ve gotten a lot more serious about it recently, composting and using more homemade cleaners instead of store-bought,” she says. “I mix vinegar with water in a spray bottle and it works great. A year ago, we’d generate two cans of trash, and now we don’t even fill one.” These simple steps helped Zemansky lower her grocery bill and halve what she used to put in landfills.

Improve Handling & Steering, Reduce Tire Wear, Drive Safer...Hunter Road Force comes to 106 St. Tire & Wheel

Got BAD Vibrations? 106 St. Tire & Wheel Introduces Hunter Road Force Balancing at its Location at 106-01 Northern Blvd |718-446-6769 | Open 24/7 Inc. Holidays

106 St. Tire & Wheel has announced additional technology is available to its customers at 106’s main location in Corona. A new Hunter Diagnostic System has been added and it’s especially useful for finding the cause of vibrations in steering and tires. It’s also able to diagnose asymmetrical wheel issues that can cause excessive tire wear, damage to suspension and unsafe steering and handling.

The Hunter System is a computer simulated road test demonstrating actual road force conditions that a tire is exposed to when in use as opposed to the traditional wheel balancing systems which measures only and “up-and-down” imbalance. The Hunter System utilizes a more dynamic balance. It measures not only “up-and-down” motion of tires but also “side-to-side” motion thereby providing better overall balance while reducing visible tire weights on wheels.

A 106 St. spokesman stated, “It’s estimated that the average size tire rotates at approxi-mately 850 times per minute when the driver does about 60 mph. At this speed, small variances in balance can cause major issues like excessive tire wear and handling and steering issues as the rotation of the tire slams the wheel into the ground 14 times a second.”

106 St. Tire & Wheel is offering introductory specials to customers starting immediately. The spokesman stated, “We are offering specials so that our customers can get a better ride…using this technology really improves handling…it’s like riding in a new car. Also, this is one more way 106 St. is working for the community to help utilize the technology of the modern tire dealer. Less tire wear results in less gasoline consumption and with each and every step we take, we help reduce pollution.”

106 St...leading the way to a more enlightened, safer, cleaner future!

As NYC’s premier tire dealer, 106 St. Tire & Wheel has been an industry leader for decades. And because of our loyal customer base we are an established and thriving business with 4 locations, and, we take our role as a community icon very seriously.

As a progressive and participating member of our community we are not just about tires. We, now under second generation family leadership, are interested in the compelling issues of our times.

With our own children growing up in NYC, we are concerned about safety, the environment, the skyrocketing numbers of kids with breathing issues, etc. Please see this link if you too are concerned about air quality and the huge number of kids affected by pollution: http://www.stateoftheair.org/

Of course, we have everything the ordinary tire store has or we wouldn’t be #1 in Queens, however, to us, as life long residents of this community, it’s about our family in the neighborhoods surrounding our stores. 106 St. Tire & Wheel Cares! Please see our site at www.106StTire.com

106 St. Tire & Wheel to Present Talk on Nitrogen Fill at the Queens Chamber of Commerce

106 St. Tire & Wheel to Present Talk on Nitrogen
Fill at the Queens Chamber of Commerce

106 St. Tire & Wheel will be hosting the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s “Breakfast before Business” at 8:30AM on October 29th 2010 and presenting a brief video and talk on the advantages of nitrogen tire fill.

The video features one of America’s most famous celebrity car collectors, Jay Leno, star of the “Tonight Show,” who is a spokesman for GetNitrogen.org, a group advocating for the use of nitrogen fill.

Nitrogen tire fill has been in use by the U.S. military, Air Force One, NASCAR, the airlines and NASA for nearly a decade. Nitrogen fill lasts longer maintaining the proper air pressure in tires longer and, therefore, saves consumption of gas. It’s estimated that the wide spread use of nitrogen tire fill in our cities could improve air quality dramatically by having us burn 3.8 billion fewer gallons of gas a day.

A spokesperson for 106 St. Tire & Wheel stated, “With childhood breathing issues increasing and asthma occurrences spiraling, it’s important for we Queens residents to act now in the best interest of our kids, neighborhoods and the planet.”

Contact the Queens Chamber of Commerce at (718) 898-8500 x-24 for more details.

ALWAYS OPEN YOUR WINDOWS WHEN YOU GET IN YOUR CAR! Here's why:

Car A/C (Air Conditioning) MUST READ!!!

Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car.

Open the windows after you enter your car and turn ON the AC after a couple of minutes.

Here's why:

According to a research, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe thesmell of heated plastic in your car). In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia andreduces white blood cells.

Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. Can also cause miscarriage.

Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. Ft. A car parked indoorswith windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, theBenzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level. People who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin.

Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidneys and liver. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time forinterior to air out - dispel the deadly stuff - before you enter.

106 St. CARES: We are helping kids...can you help, too?

106 St. Tire & Wheel & Corona Commerce Cares
Beautiful Music Together Piano Placement Program

We are proud members of the community & the greatest way to show our gratitude to the community that helped us build our business is to give back.

We are collecting pianos that people are giving away, we have a piano tuner who will give his services for free, we have a truck with hydraulic lift and we will place pianos with those with the greatest need first.

We are requesting that a paragraph be written explaining the situation so that we can ascertain those with the greatest need. We expect to have a waiting and, therefore, those who would like a piano are advised to put some thought into why your need maybe greater than someone else’s.

Who can have a free piano? In order to be eligible, we request that you have a real need. We are interested in children whose parents cannot afford a piano or seniors with the same need and not-for-profit organizations. If there are extenuating circumstances like perhaps a disability or an illness we want to help those people first. Music is healing and we will place those who are ill high on the list.

Here’s what we are asking from the community:

(1) CraigsList.org has a constant flow of free pianos in the free section on its site. We are asking everyone with some spare time to take a look at this everyday.

(2) Please feel free to make contact with the person giving away the piano. Please tell them about our “Make Beautiful Music Together” Program and pass on the information about what we are doing, why, how at give our phone number.

(3) Please call us with the information at 718-271-9700 (please do not call our shops!) or contact us by e-mail at tirewheels106@yahoo.com

(4) We have storage space, so there will be no such thing as too many pianos so please pass the word, fax a copy of the materials we have for you to others, leave a copy anywhere you think someone might pick it up.

(5) If you donate a piano, please write a brief history about the piano so it can passed to someone who maybe perhaps inspired by your generous act to do the same for someone else down the road.

(6) For those receiving pianos, please have a few people available to help move the piano off the hydraulic tailgate of the truck in to your home or facility. 106 St. Tire & Wheel cannot be responsible for damage or injuries to your home or facility or people.

THANK YOU,
106 St. Tire & Wheel, Inc.

106 Tire Cares....calling not for profit organizations to form a win-win with us especially in our Corona and Jamaica locations:

Having lived our entire lives in Queens and operating a chain of tire stores around this borough, we are very grateful to the community for supporting our business and making it what it is today. We are a second generation family business, minority owned, and we’ve worked and continue to work diligently to give our customers excellent service with an eye on how we can serve the community that has brought us so much success.

Like many hard working families, we find times tough, but, we know, as Americans we are tougher. With the above in mind, we have gotten active in the community because we know we are all in this together. With our neighbors in mind, on weekday mornings, we offer the early-bird, recession specials: 10% off tires at all 4 of our locations.

And also, we know churches, community groups and not-for-profit groups really struggle with raising costs, decreased donations and more people in need.

We are developing a group called Corona Commerce Cares and as you can see from the enclosed flyer, we are giving back by thinking about the budding music makers of the future. We are asking your help in this endeavor. Would you please make copies of the enclosed flyer and distribute to your constituents? In return, we are offering those who are fund raisers here in Queens, tires to raffle off in your efforts to support your organization.

We believe in community, we believe in win-wins, we believe together we can truly make beautiful music together in more ways than one.

Please call us if we can help you…and if you can help us help our kids and adults who need a piano and cannot afford one, please let us know.

Let’s work together and pave the path of the future with the spirit of good will. Thank you.

Please call 347-226-4692 and speak with Irene or leave a message and your call will be returned.

Thanks

NYC's Premier Tire Dealer....106 St. Tire & Wheel Thinks Green:

We have already spoken here about nitrogen fill and how much gasoline it can save
(from 3-10% per tank of gas) and we've asked our customers, friends and neighbors to think about air quality.

We've said that we recycle old batteries, tires and oil in an ecologically safe way in accordance with NYC/NYS law.

Apart from our interests in car related items, offering early bird specials to help out our customers in the recession and increasing our services, 106 St Cares about a lot.

Here's a fact that amazed us:
turning off the water while brushing your teeth can save up to
5 gallons of water.

Can you imagine what we all could save in the way of water, sewage tax,
earth's resources if we just did that simple thing?

Earth has limited resources and on our overpopulated planet, it is a mistake
to be shortsighted and thing we will never run out of fresh water, natural resources,
clean air....

Bridgestone Expands Driver's Education for Teens

Extending its "Think Before You Drive" driver education efforts, Bridgestone Americas has launched another safe driving program targeting teenaged drivers.

The Teens Drive Smart program focuses on educating teens on the dangers of distracted and impaired driving practices such as texting, talking on the phone and rowdy passengers.

“Educating teenagers about driver safety is not only the responsibility of parents and schools; it is also a responsibility for the community as a whole,” the company said. “As members of communities both big and small, we at Bridgestone Americas are fully committed to educating America’s teens on the importance of safe driving every time they get behind the wheel.”

The online home of this initiative is a new, interactive website – teensdrivesmart.com – that was specially designed to interact and engage with young drivers “in their voice so that they can understand the risks of distracted driving and start to practice safe driving habits,” the company said.

The site offers a variety of interactive components, including Real teen2teen advice to help teenagers navigate uncomfortable driving situations; tips and statistics for both teens and parents focusing on safe driving and car maintenance; driver safety contract templates for new drivers and their parents; videos demonstrating how to handle a vehicle in potentially dangerous situations; a blog where young drivers can share their take on safe driving habits; and a “Game Room” that offers a road quiz to test the teens’ knowledge of driver safety, two online games, and a quiz to determine which car best describes someone.

OLD FASHIONED TIRE GAUGE? Forrrrr---getttt---ttttaaa 'bout it!

Tire Pressure Monitoring Goes 21st Century:

Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) are now mandated by federal law (commencing on Sept. 1, 2007) in all new passenger vehicles manufactured in the US and, also, this trend is international.

Monitoring your tire pressure, therefore, will dramatically change. Like most everything else in our world today, tire pressure will become a digital display. The TPMS electronic system will monitor real time tire pressure on your dashboard and automatically display a warning when tire pressure is low or high.

Since under-inflated tires are the #1 cause of tire failure, this technology improves road safety by preventing accidents, saving hundreds of lives and thousands of injuries each year.

Tire pressure monitoring sensors will be attached to the back of the valve stem on each tire and will not only show tire pressure but they will also display temperature of the tire.

The result?

Road safety dramatically increases says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA estimates that in the United States almost 550 people lose their lives each year because of tire defects. By adding TPMS, 120 lives can be saved annually and about 8500 injuries can be avoided.

The NHTSA isn’t alone in its findings.

The French Institution for Road Safety (Sécurité Routière) has estimated that approximately 9% of fatal accidents are caused by under-inflated tires.

Additionally, Germany’s DEKRA estimates that as many as 41% of all accidents maybe caused by tire problems.

And, by the way…TPMS is helpful for a greener tomorrow. In a more eco-friendly world with TPMS equipped vehicles get better gas mileage (saving you more than 3% for each tank of gas you use) when tires are inflated properly. This helps the environment by reducing the use of gasoline and diminishing greenhouse gases.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has estimated that the proper inflation of tires could eliminate 250 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle, per year. That equates to approximately than 57.5 billion pounds of carbon monoxide pollutants each year.

106 St Tire & Wheel wishes our customers a very happy, SAFE and

healthy holiday season. Please check your
tire pressure before that holiday drive.

It is the single most important 5 minutes
of the trip.

Thanks & best wishes

FOR THE 1ST TIME: The TIRE BUSINESS will have its own section at the next SEMA show

The SEMA show displays the latest in all aspects of driving.
It occurs annually in Las Vegas in November. We will be posting more
info about that.

Maybe the obvious needs overstatement? We are urging the 3 most important rules of driving be observed today and everyday!

What are the 3 most important factors for we drivers?

1) SAFETY
2) SAFETY
3) SAFETY

The link below is a .gov site and we are urging
all those parents with teenagers about to drive to
download the attachment.

It's very helpful information we all should know
but also apply.

Be safe this weekend...

Space age tech comes to tires....Nitrogen fill....

Use Nitrogen to Fill for Your Tires!

Used by NASCAR for decades, airliners and even NASA Space Shuttles, your car tires will not only go high-tech with nitrogen fill, you will vastly improve your driving experience. Nitrogen (N2) can provide you with longer-lasting, safer, better, more consistent performance and save you more than 3 percent in gas costs.

WHY NITROGEN? The N2 molecule is larger than the oxygen molecule making nitrogen fill last longer because it takes longer for the N2 molecule to escape through the porous rubber tire.

The results are:

• increasing safety (under- or over-inflating tires causes accidents, injuries and fatalities)
• saving gas, money & the environment
• extending the life of your tires
• improving the handling of your vehicle
• maintaining proper tire inflation 3-4X longer
Want even more reasons to use nitrogen fill?
• Nitrogen minimizes blowouts
• Nitrogen is an stable, non-flammable & non-combustible gas diminishing the possibility of fire after a collision
• Nitrogen’s stability provides more consistent and constant tire pressure
• Nitrogen is a dry gas with no corrosive properties like those found in ordinary gas station compressed air

Save gas while on spring break...suggestions from the Dept. of Energy

Drive Sensibly - Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.

Observe the Speed Limit - While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. You can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.24 per gallon for gas. Observing the speed limit is also safer.

Remove Excess Weight - Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight and affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones.

Avoid Excessive Idling - Idling gets 0 miles per gallon. Cars with larger engines typically waste more gas at idle than do cars with smaller engines.

Use Cruise Control - Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save gas.

Use Overdrive Gears - When you use overdrive gearing, your car's engine speed goes down. This saves gas and reduces engine wear.

Be a good citizen....stop at all red lights OR ELSE:

Recently, a woman in an intersection was struck by a hit and run driver. This happened in a smaller city than our city but was seen on national TV. As the pace and traffic increase around spring break, please increase your level of awareness to what's around you.

Safety is very important on our streets and highways.

DO NOT DOUBLE PARK...if you need to stop pull into a driveway,
bus stop, or a fire hydrant and STAY IN YOUR CAR.

Obstructing traffic makes it difficult to see children crossing,
vehicles pulling out, etc.

Red lights=STOP
Stop signs=STOP
flashing yellow lights=PROCEED WITH CAUTION

STOP FOR ALL SCHOOL BUSES loading or unloading passengers.
This is NYS law.

In NYC, we see more and more security cameras being put in
place especially in Manhattan. The Traffic Dept. has been
using cameras at red lights for several years and, frankly,
it's safer if everyone assumes all red lights have cameras.

We have to slow down, put pedestrian safety first, let
the flow of traffic not be impeded and THINK while we are
driving.

It will save lives and money, make us more responsible citizens
and contribute to the higher good of all.

It's easy to get distracted...we lead busy lives, our radios
are too loud, we have cell phones, text messages, etc.
However, once you get behind the wheel, you are in control

ingenious recycling of used tires as seen in the Wall St. Journal

Earth Day is approaching and its a time that we all need to remember the needs of our planet and understand that a greener tomorrow is up to each of us.

Too many people toss old tires into ponds and lakes. We recycle here at 106 St. Tire & Wheel and we urge all of our readers and customers to embrace some form of recycling like soda cans, containers, bottles or really get inventive like the people featured at the Wall Street Journal site.

This article ran on Friday coincidentally the first day of spring. These are some brilliant uses recycling. Please take a look at a 2700 sq ft houses created from old tires:

106 St. Tire & Wheel is urging our community to participate in today's world:

In the weeks to come our website will be rennovated and this blog will be attached to it.

As we look to the neighboorhoods around our shops, we see urban renewal is underway. The 21st century outlook is a progressive march to the future with awareness, accountability, thinking green and gaining education about responsible, eco-friendly use the earth's resources.

We have been a member of the Queens community for decades with the last 30 years as a small business. We are concerned about our neighborhoods and our neighbors.

We believe information is power and we want to empower our customers who are like family to us to make every effort to learn English, tune into a more community minded mind set, be conscious of recycling and beautify our neighborhood.

What's good for Corona and Queens is good for America and the world and as this blog continues we are going to give you important information about many things like safety, ecology, community, etc.

Thank you for your support over the last 30 years. Lets make the next decades even more successful by working together to improve the planet one person at a time.

Happy spring and blessed holidays!

Safety tip of the week from your community minded tire & wheel resource:

DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL IN THE RAIN OR IN ICEY CONDITIONS!

Snow, ice, slush and even rain can cause wheel spin and loss of control and situations where drivers must react very quickly to.

Although drivers can disengage cruise control by simply touching the brake with their foot, any extra motion needed during a dangerous situation, can be especially dangerous when every milli-second of reaction time counts.

Tire safety tips!

We are a family owned tire and wheel business located in Queens with 4 locations (Northern Blvd in Corona just west of Shea Stadium...now the new Citifield, Queens Blvd in Elmhurst, Merrick Blvd in Jamaica and another on 108 St in Corona); one of our goals is to provide helpful information to our neighbors about safety issues.

Here's the top ten things to remember about your tires:

1. check and adjust tire pressure once a month
2. inspect tires for abnormal wear or damage
3. rotate your tires every 6,000 miles (or according to your car's owner's manual)
4. maintain tire balance
5. never overload a tire
6. maintain proper tire alignment for steering and suspension
7. replace tires when needed
8. install tires in sets of 4 or 2
9. do not over heat your tires
10. select the correct tire for the environment, weather conditions & your vehicle

Come on in and ask one of our tire experts for their suggestions for replacing your tires with a tire especially suited not only for your vehicle but also for your individual driving needs.

Give us a call at 718-446.6769
