niiiiiiiiiccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....

106 St Tire & Wheel still feels strongly about nitrogen fill...here;s a reprint of an article: more questions about nitrogen fill? Call us ar 718-446-6769

Why do we as tire experts still feel so strongly about nitrogen fill? Let's just spell it out. Nitrogen fill is $8 per tire. If you do nitrogen fill you spend a whopping $32.

106 St became the first tire and wheel dealer in Queens to have nitrogen fill in our stores because we believe it saves lives. First, it doesn't leak as fast as compressed air. Properly inflated tires, something many car owners ignore, saves lives.

Each year thousands of accidents are caused by under-inflated tires and people die, are seriously injured, it costs millions of dollars in injuries, lost wages, and property damage.

106 St Tire & Wheel's ownership is very concerned with environmental issues in NYC.
WHY? Simple...we are raising children in Queens and we want the borough and the city to act responsibly in helping improve air quality. We want less pollution.
Please go to http://getnitrogen.org and see why Jay Leno is the national spokesperson for nitrogen fill.

106 St Tire & Wheel is highly responsible on all matters of the environment as everyone of we NYers ought to be.

Also, before we give you a reprint of an article that appeared in the Chamber of Commerce's newspaper, 106 St Tire & Wheel wants to remind you to winterize your car for SAFETY. SAFETY FIRST!

Luck favors the prepared! BE PREPARED!

===106 St Tire & Wheel Recommends Nitrogen Fill====

As a life long resident of New York City, this past summer is one I will never forget. Day after day, radio and TV stations warned the elderly and those with breathing issues to stay indoors. We recorded one of the hottest summers in history with the heat, humidity and pollution making air quality unbearable.

For those of us who live in large cities where traffic jams intensify pollution from vehicle emissions resulting in greenhouse gases pouring into the atmosphere, it’s imperative that we understand the huge impact pollution has on all of us.

Air pollution has very negative effects on human health that range from irritated eyes to serious heart and lung effects. It’s been shown to cause increases in asthma and upper respiratory infections in kids and diseases like chronic bronchitis in grown ups.

Greenhouse gases aggravate and worsen the health of those struggling with medical conditions like lung and heart disease and pollution has been linked to a shortened life expectancy.

Ultimately, greenhouse gases affect human health not only by breathing it but also by polluting drinking water of people and live stock and by entering the food chain through acid rain.

And global warming, the associated climate change and sea level rise can threaten earth’s very existence. Our planet is fragile and overcrowded and, we need to take responsibility now for thinking greener as, eventually, our children and their future can only be as healthy as the planet itself.

As a father as well as the owner of a second generation family owned tire chain, I made the decision to think greener a few years ago.

I am empowering my customers with helpful information on how something as simple as under-inflated tires can play a huge role in the future of our planet.
There are over 10,000 tire related accidents each year in the U.S. and the number one cause of tire failure is under-inflated or improperly inflated tires.
Under-inflated tires are costly because they increase tire wear, waste gas and therefore pollute the air. They can cause serious injuries and even deaths in what is a totally avoidable situation.

If you luckily escape injury or worse in an accident caused by under-inflated tires, it will cost you plenty financially in damage to your car, property damage, deductibles, etc.

Improper tire inflation also reduces your gas mileage by more than 3% and every gallon of gas wasted equates to about 20 lbs. of greenhouse gases.
There are about 220 million cars on the roads in the United States. It’s been estimated that under-inflated tires alone wastes about 3.5 million gallons of gasoline each day! That translates to us using 800 million barrels of crude oil a year.

Getting into the habit of checking your tire pressure once a month can save you hundreds of dollars a year on gas (and tire wear) or more depending on how much you use your car and the environmental effect certainly impacts our threatened planet.

Also, nitrogen tire fill can help with gas costs and pollution and it’s not new. “The Tonight Show’s” host, Jay Leno, is national spokesman for an organization that promotes drivers taking a pro-active stance in helping the earth by reducing the tons of emissions that pour into our atmosphere. (see: www.getnitrogen.org)

Nitrogen tire fill has been used by NASCAR, in airplane tires (including Air Force One) and NASA space shuttle tires for more than a decade. By utilizing nitrogen fill in our own vehicles and in businesses that maintain a fleet of vehicles, the savings can be between 3-10% per tank full of gas per vehicle.

Nitrogen fill lasts longer because the nitrogen molecule is more stable and larger than that of oxygen. It takes longer for it to escape through the porous rubber tire. The result is nitrogen:
• Increases driving safety (under-inflating tires is the number one cause of tire related accidents resulting in accidents, injuries, lost wages, fatalities, etc.)
• saves gas, money & supports a healthier environment
• it extends tire life by diminishing tire wear
• improves the handling of vehicles
• maintains proper tire inflation 3-4 times longer; it’s stability provides more consistent and constant tire pressure therefore reducing maintenance
• minimizes blowouts
• it’s an stable, non-flammable & non-combustible gas diminishing the possibility of fire after a collision
• it’s a dry gas with no corrosive properties like those found in ordinary gas station compressed air
If 85% of us used nitrogen fill, we’d save 3.8 billion gallons of gas per year.
This equates to sparing the earth 76 billion tons of carbon monoxide and other greenhouse gases.

Saving the above 3.8 billion gallons of gas equates to planting 7 million acres of forest.

Nitrogen fill is only about $30.00 for all four tires. If we don’t consider the health of the earth by taking this high tech step, how about each of us plant a tree or two for Earth Day on April 22?

106 ST Tire & Wheel Tire is a progressive organization deeply invested in the community. We've been blogging for nearly 2 years and often times we've spoken to community issues and not just tires and wheels.

We offer a 10% discount on Wednesdays each week. Our staff is particularly sensitive to the needs of women especially single moms who need great advice and a good price.

106 St Tire & Wheel's safety tip of the day:

Don't use your cruise control in the wet and snowy weather. It's easier for your vehicle to go out of control when the pavement is wet.

Are your tires bald? Don't go into the winter with tires that are not in good condition. 106 St Tire & Wheel is open 7 days a week at all locations. 106 St understands that times are tough. We offer high quality, high tread, double inspected used tires.

Often times, when there's a bad wreck, the tires on a totaled car are the only thing that's savalagable. Tires like this are widely distributed all over the country and 106 St has them at good prices, so, if times are tough and new tires aren't an option, used tires are a perfectly safe alternative to the costly new ones.

Call our main location (open 24/7 inc holidays) at 718-446-6769
or see our website for the hours and numbers of our other 3 locations
www.106StTire.com

ALL OUR LOCATIONS (Jamaica, Corona and Queens Blvd) are OPEN 7 days now!

106 St Tire & Wheel is now offering wholesale prices to other companies in the trade. Please call the above number and select option ONE and ask for Willy or Miguel.

106 St Tire & Wheel's advice on winterizing your car, SUV, pickup truck...it's more than just your tires!

Winterizing your car is so much more than tires! So here goes... in 106 St Tire & Wheel's continuing role as educator for our community. We are a family owned business and our customers are our family too. You have made 106 St Tire & Wheel Queens number one tire and wheel discount center in NYC and we provide all the most famous names in tires like Bridgestone, Firestone tires, Goodyear, Continental, Falken tires, Hankook tires, Yokohama, great quality used tires, Asanti Wheels, D2 Forged rims, Concept One rims, Savini, Konig wheels, Vossen, Vellano rims and more.

106 St Tire & Wheel will beat Pep Boys and Sears, deliver unprecedented education in staying safe in your car and help in anyway we can to make Queens a safer, more recession conscious borough.

First, let’s talk tire pressure. 106 St Tire & Wheel with 4 locations is #1 in Queens with decades of experience in all phases of tire and wheel care. Our customers know that we inspect tires and do free tire pressure checks, winter, summer, fall and spring. What most people don’t know is tire pressure is one of the most overlooked facets of driving with many
accidents, injuries and deaths happening across America each and every year due to something so simple & avoidable: UNDER-INFLATED TIRES!!!

Your tires must be properly inflated to ensure you’ll have the best possible traction as you drive along — and traction is severely jeopardized in wet, snowy, cold and hot or icy conditions and when your tires are UNDER INFLATED or OVER INFLATED in order for you to maintain the safe tire pressure, your pressure should be checked once a month. For those who feel this is a nuance, 106 St Tire & Wheel will do this for you FREE. Also we can recommend nitrogen fill which requires less rigorous monitoring and will improve your gas mileage. What is the tire pressure for your car? Check the owner’s manual or the door jam on the driver’s side of your car.

Snow tires, are they a necessity? Do you live in a mountainous place that gets its fair share of snow? Then you might want to improve traction even more by investing in winter tires and using them over the next few months instead of your usual all-season tires. For driving in NYC where we hope there is a snow plow or two, some might opt for an all weather tire. 106 St Tire & Wheel has plenty of recommendation when shopping around for snow tires so syop by and ask about: Bridgestone BLIZZAK Performance winter / snow tires featuring high-performance winter tread compounds molded into directional tread designs that provide thousands of biting edges to combine stop and go traction in snow with responsive handling in wet and dry road conditions or BLIZZAK Studless Ice & Snow tires or Continental ContiWinterContact and Continental 4x4 WinterContact Performance Winter / Snow tires feature rubber compounds that remain flexible in cold temperatures while their asymmetric tread designs combine responsive handling with snow traction. Two choices not enough? So come on in and talk with one of our highly experienced tire experts to get the best tire for your specific driving needs…have a consultation FOR FREE.

Are you using the right kind of oil? If you are approaching the 30,000 mile full service check up for you vehicle, don’t put it off. This is a very important check up for the life of your vehicle. This check should include an oil change and the proper “thickness” of the oil, also called VISCOSITY, is very important at this time of the year. Oil thickens when temperatures drop and if it gets too thick it’s not going to a sufficient job in keeping your engine properly lubricated. 106 St Tire & Wheel advises you to read “your Bible” of proper maintenance…your owner’s manual. Your manual will give you the best advice specifically aimed at your car, engine size, etc. If you’ve lost it, find it on the web and follow all directions to keep your vehicle’s warranty in tact to save your self hassle, time, costly, uncovered repairs, etc.

Can you “see the light” AND other cars, pedestrians, the road? Windshield wiper blades have a life expectancy just like everything else and it’s only about a year. Replace wiper blades sooner if the rubber starts to crack or leaves heavy streaks across your windshield. Another important step with regard to seeing the road and driving safe? Keep your windshield washer reservoir filled with windshield washer fluid; don’t use water as it will freeze and you won’t be able to keep your windshield clean. This is critically important as road mist, ice, etc will prevent you from being a responsible citizen and driving safely. It’s important to check to see that your heater and defroster are working properly, also. Both are critical in keeping your windshield clean. Another important tool for winter driving: have one of those ice removers for your windshield that can chop ice with one side and brush snow off with the other…we will have a whole list below on what you need to include in a safety kit.

Check your battery before winter! Fall is the right time to check your battery and make sure that the battery terminals are free from corrosion, your battery has water and it can hold a full charge. Cold weather often makes us painfully aware that our batteries are older than we think. If your battery is more than 3 years old, come on into 106 St Tire & Wheel and let us test your battery’s ability to hold a charge. Often times a taxi, TLC or car service vehicle will give you a jump start for $5 but why wait and be inconvenienced? Some times these kinds of vehicle issues can happen when it’s snowing, freezing cold or in the middle of the night. AVOID THIS by thinking a head and be safer. And, by the way, 106 St Tire & Wheel stores have batteries for your convenience.

Remember your car’s belts and hoses! Cold weather can do a number on belts and hoses so make sure they are checked prior to the weather getting cold. 106 St Tire & Wheel locations do a 47-Point Safety check and hoses and belts are always checked at our locations and it’s FREE. Winter can really cause some issues here as the cold weather makes rubber brittle. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, folks.

Do you have four-wheel drive? Make sure your system is working correctly before the first snowfall especially because most drivers don’t use their 4WD systems in the pleasant summer months. Be sure that the system engages and disengages easily and that all drivers of the vehicle know how and when to activate the system.

Get the antifreeze mixture just right & remember every year too many children and pets are poisoned by antifreeze! Please keep this out of reach of kids & clean up leaks or risk losing a pet. Aim for having a 50-50 mix of antifreeze (coolant) and water inside your radiator or you can have one of our experts do this for you. This will prevent the mixture from freezing even at extremely cold temperatures. It’s easy to check the status of the mixture with an inexpensive antifreeze tester, which you can pick up at any auto parts store, or once again, 106 St Tire & Wheel will do for you. If the 50-50 mixture is off, your cooling system should be drained and refilled or flushed. Be sure you’re equipped to dispose of your old antifreeze properly if you do this job yourself….it’s toxic or just leave it to we pros at 106 St Tire.

The Lesson of Hurricane Irene: prepare an emergency kit! Get one of those large plastic containers with a lid and place those items that must remain dry inside and in your trunk:
• a warm blanket or two
• extra boots and waterproof gloves
• an extra set or two of warm clothes for members of your family
• extra water, non perishable food, hard candies like peppermints
hooded sweatshirts
• an ice scraper
• a small shovel
• a flashlight and an extra set of batteries
• windshield washer fluid
• windshield wipers
flares
• jumper cables
• a tool kit
• tire chains
• a tire gauge
• a spare tire with air in it
• tire jack
• a first-aid kit
• paper towels
• a bag of abrasive material such as rock salt, sand or non-clumping kitty litter- all are excellent ways to increase traction if a tire gets stuck in snow.
• keep your gas tank as full as you can to prevent the gas lines from freezing
• a phone charger for your cell phone (plugs into cigarette lighter)
Here’s some other 21st century items you might want to consider to make the most out of the power in your battery through the cigarette lighter:
12V Spotlight Halogen Spot Light
USB Heated Travel Mug
Stainless Steel Heated Auto Mug w/12 volt Power Adapter
12v Electric Scissor Car Auto Jack + 1/2" Impact Wrench
Audiovox VBP5000 Portable DVD and VCP Mobile Video System with 5.6" LCD
Roadpro 12V Heater and Fan with Swing-out Handle
12V, 3 Outlet Platinum Series Fused Cigarette Lighter Adapter w/90 Swivel
Triple Socket W/Extension
Shinn Fu Of America 12V 260Psi Compressor W1557 Auto Air Compressors
Slime COMP04 Portable 12-Volt Air Compressor
Wagan Total Rest Massage Magnetic Cushion
Heated Car Seat Cushion & Cover
Wagan EL2296 10.5 Liter Personal Fridge and Warmer

Do you know what to do if you get stranded? Don’t wander away from your car unless you’re completely sure about where you are and how far away help is. Call someone first and let them know your location as a precautionary safety measure. Light two flares and place one of them at each end of your vehicle to call attention to your situation. Put on the extra clothes and use the blanket to stay warm. If you have enough gas in the tank, run the engine and heater for about 10 minutes for each hour you’re waiting for help to stay as warm as possible. Leave at least one window open a little bit so that snow and ice don’t seal the car shut. Suck on a hard candy to prevent your mouth from getting too dry.

taking 106 St Tire & Wheel's advice about winterizing...last night, I, who writes the blog for Queens Premier Discount Tire Dealer got a lesson on why we need to think maintenance on our cars...

On my way home from 106 St Tire & Wheel in Corona where I work updating this blog, I made a stop for a take out dinner. When I came out my car wouldn't start. Unfortunately, I was no longer close to 106 St Tire & Wheel.

Fortunately, I called on my AAA membership. While I was waiting a rather long time,
I attempted to start my car again and it finally did start. However, I was thinking, "How old is this darn battery?" Well, guess what? Older than I thought.

We all do this...we all forget to think about the WHAT IFs. What if I am alone on a dark road in bad weather and I skid on a wet road? What if my tires need air, replacements, etc? Well, I guess my indifference to the cautions I write about might be too late if my car skid out of control.

Last night, my car could have not started in some dark parking lot on Long Island.
Instead, it wouldn't start on street in Fresh Meadows, near stores, it was parked legally, AAA took too long to respond and I tried to start the car again...it started.

Now, this could be battery cables...
This could be I need a new battery...
This was a cautionary warning....
My battery is old, the winter is approaching and my car will be left on the
street all day while I continue my blogging for 106 St Tire & Wheel.

I am going to go with the advice of the experts at 106 St Tire & Wheel in Corona
and replace my 7 year old battery NOW...

please heed the advice to winterize your car....would you want to skid on a dark road with nearly bald tires?

Would you want your car not to start in some dark place when its freezing cold outside?

Do you want to wait endlessly until AAA gets there?

Come on into 106 St Tire & Wheel and let the experts guide you through what
you need replace in order to avoid the hassle of my Friday night.

Here's 106 ST Tire & Wheel's web page:
www.106StTire.com

Please find the location closest to you and take the steps
you need before you have an accident, your car doesn't start, etc.

Take an hour out of your day NOW and avoid the danger or unpleasantness
of doing nothing until you're forced too.

The choice is yours and mine...I am not risking that my battery won't fail
again. It will be replaced this weekend.

Let a word to the wise be sufficient?

Ways to Save on Auto Maintenance from Queens #1 Discount Tire & WHeel Dealers, 106 St Tire & Wheel-open 24/7 on Northern Blvd including holidays-call us 718-446-6769 or just come on it-we are always here

Having a car and having a trustworthy mechanic goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Just like you find a doctor BEFORE you get sick, please find a good car repair shop BEFORE your idiot lights go on or you breakdown on a dark road somewhere or some time it's really, really inconvenient or unsafe. Getting stuck might expose you to getting an astronomical repair bill or perhaps danger depending on where you break down. This is especially true for our female customers. And ladies, always check the back seat of your car before opening your door. You never know and an ounce of prevention can go along way in keeping you safe.

106 St. Tire & Wheel, having been in business for decades is, apparently, doing something right...very right. We're an icon in Queens and we've worked hard to create a great repeutation.

Our business is growing, we now have 4 locations serving Queens (2 stores in Corona, one on Queens Blvd in Elmust and one of Merrick Ave-all stores are open 7 days a week except Merrick which is closed on Sunday) and most of our business is repeat customers and family members.

106 ST Tire & Wheel loves seeing the same faces year in and year out and we strive serve our customers by being progressive, offering discounts, being recession aware and offering our customers the services and brand names they most want like Goodyear tires, Firestone tires, Pirelli tirs, Hankook, Falken, Bridgestone tirs, Yokohama, Michelin tires, Continential, Asanti rims, Konig wheels, Vellano rims, Vossen wheels, D2 Forged rims, Concept One wheels, etc.

Here’s a few tips to save you some money during these tough times:

1-Oil changes and high test gas

check your owner’s manual for how often to change your oil and what type of gas your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends. If your owner’s manual says regular gas, use it and save yourself 20 cents per gallon or more over high test. If you’re changing your oil every 3000 miles and your manufacturer says every 5000 miles, why toss that extra money down the drain?

2-Find a local mechanic you trust and give him your business

Too many car owners go from shop to shop, forking over bucks on major (and some times minor) repairs. Find a place that gives you advice free, is progressive and offers specials and has a community presence. Businesses that are doing well are doing so for a reason. Also, please note, automotive shops that aren’t active on the Net can’t afford to be. The Net is today’s medium and method for communication. If a shop has no presence on the Net, you might want to find one who does simply because the shop is doing well (FOR A REASON….like terrific service, discount prices, selection of car, SUV and light truck tires, community interest, a big following, etc).

Also, keep in mind that a few negative reviews is the “cost” of doing business. There are lots of people out there who have nothing better to do than be overly picky. However, if ANY business has negative review after negative review, avoid them.
Check us out on the Net and see how much time and effort we deliver to the community in an effort to increase your knowledge. Before you get in our door, we’ve already invested in you and making sure you have the information you need to form a knowledgeable opinion. Also, we employ a staff full of experts who will give you free advice, expert opinions on what tires are best for your particular driving needs and tell you how to get more bang for your tire and service buck….it’s simply why we are the best place in Queens to get discount name brand tires and rims, have a track record in the community and have developed the community and Net profile we have. Google 106 St Tire & Wheel or visit our site at
www.106StTire.com

Also, please help yourself to the first free downloadable ebook ever made
available to assist customers created by a tire dealer on our home page.

3-Add-ons like mounting of tires and wheel alignments:

At 106 St Tire & Wheel, when we give you a price on 4 new or used tires, mounting and free wheel alignment are all included. There are NO EXTRAS.

4- Tire rotation:

This is one of the least critical of maintenance issues however if you don't do it, your tires will certainly wear out more quickly so it is important. However, in these dark economic times, 106 St Tire & Wheel is sensitive to more pressing issues of the times. Have your car inspected in our shop and we’ll put the wheels back on in different spots. We work to maintain a win-win relationship with our valuable customer base. It’s the 106 St Tire and Wheel difference.

5- Do not ignore your temperature gauge or your oil light:

This could be serious. Pull over as soon as you safely can and turn off the engine. Unless you know what you’re doing this is NO PLACE for an amateur. Time to call for help
