The hot weather is here again, please join 106 St Tire & Wheel and THINK GREEN, we have free information about nitrogen fill. Stop by 106-01 Northern Blvd-call-718-446-6769-for a free tire pressure check and a free tire inspection and learn about earth friendly, low cost nitrogen fill ($32 for all 4 tires)

Using Nitrogen Tire Fill Can Equate to Planting 7 Million Acres of Forest

Yesterday the Grand Central Parkway had an alert about the air quality. The sign was urging using public transportation. We New Yorkers know cars are a huge issue in our city…traffic, pollution, road rage, etc. Let’s face it, we love our vehicles and the bigger the better. There’s actually some good news, though. Not all of we car enthusiasts are thinking horse-power…some of us are actually thinking green.

Christian A. Lucero, the COO of 106 St. Tire & Wheel, a lifelong resident of Queens, is operating his 4 store chain and raising his family here in NYC. He’s part of the growing number of business owners, parents & concerned New Yorkers committed to a healthier planet. Also, he’s one of the few tire dealers in Queens offering environmentally-friendly nitrogen tire fill and he’s done that for many years.

106 St. Tire launched and public service effort to increase awareness about the advantages of nitrogen fill and, in Queens, its happening. Costing only $32 to fill all 4 tires, customers are streaming into 106’s locations in Corona, Elmhurst and Jamaica to save gas & reduce pollution especially after last summer’s oppressive heat and poor air quality.

Nitrogen-fill technology is not new. It’s been used in airplane tires, NASCAR and NASA space shuttle tires for more than a decade. The nitrogen molecule is more stable and larger than that of oxygen; it takes 3 to 4 times longer for it to escape through porous rubber tires. Nitrogen fill increases safety, reduces tire wear, improves handling, minimizes blowouts and its environmentally friendly.

Under-inflated tires are an enormous safety issue both while driving and polluting the air. Improper tire pressures is the number one cause of thousands of tire related accidents annually which result in many fatalities, scores of serious injuries, property damage, increased insurance premiums, etc.

Also, under-inflated tires cause gasoline mileage to plummet costing more at the pump which is especially significant during this recession when we need every penny we have and prices of gas are spiraling to close to $3.50 a gallon. However, by utilizing nitrogen-fill gas savings can be three to ten percent per tank of gas. And, more important, for those of us with environmental interests and thinking greener, saving gas equates to saving money which equates to reducing emissions and will result in a greener tomorrow.

Our use of gas guzzling vehicles pour tons of pollutants into our atmosphere. That contributes to the sky-rocketing numbers of sufferers of breathing issues and other serious health concerns, especially, for kids and senior citizens.

The host of “The Tonight Show’s” Jay Leno, a passionate car enthusiast himself, is national spokesperson for nitrogen fill. He states that if 85% of us switched to nitrogen, the U.S. would save $3.8 billion gallons of gas per year. This equates to preventing 79 billion pounds of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases from pouring into our fragile environment. Saving that amount of gas equates to planting 7 million acres of forest.

With the above in mind and, as the 2nd generation family run business owner, Lucero, whose parents previously ran 106 St. (his mother was the only woman to run a tire business on Long Island) feels that being progressive is critical for the future of our planet.

He explains, “My children are growing up in Queens like I did. What’s good for our city is good for all of us. At 106 St. Tire we say, ‘Think green; think tomorrow.’ We invite NYers visit http://www.getnitrogen.org/ and take a few minutes to see a Jay Leno video. Please help us spread the word and send this video to everyone you know. Post it on Facebook. Let’s get smart about saving gas and save the environment and some much needed funds. Thank you”
