The fine art of tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding:
… and mind you, an art it truly is. At 106 St Tire & Wheel we use it for repairs to wheels made of alloy metals and aluminum. TIG is an arc welding system utilizing a non consumable electrode made of tungsten which results in a weld. The process of welding in this fashion must be protected from environmental contamination by using a barrier of gas that are either argon or helium.
Used to weld thin sections of stainless steel, aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys TIG is the weld of choice for use on car wheels. Because the welder must maintain a short arc length, great care and skill are required to prevent contact between the electrode and the area being welded.
While this type of manual TIG welding is considered the most challenging of all the welding processes commonly used,106 St Tire & Wheel has the most savvy, experienced technicians who can do it with great care and skill at our 4 locations in Queens http://www.106sttire.com/locations . Because the welder must maintain a short arc length, great care and skill are required to prevent contact between the electrode and the area being welded.
